Meta and Apologies
I talk about talking and blog about blogging because I’m in a hurry. This post is late
Yep, despite being neatly backdated, this post is late. First time since I started this blog eight months ago.
“BIg Deal” you might think “No-one reads this anyway.” And you’d probably be right.
But the real big deal here is that I made myself a promise I’d blog once a week and publish on a Friday, so the fact that I missed it is a bit of a let-down - albeit one I’m taking seriously enough to write on a saturday morning instead.
There is an element of recent therapy coming through here, in that the promise I made to myself has been bent, not broken, and I’m able to make amends so self-punishment isn’t necessary. Until I’ve fully embraced the idea of not relentlessly punishing myself for every slip up, it’s an odd concept to get used to - I missed a deadline, but I am still committted.
I did look back at the list of entries last week and realise that I actually managed to do that. Here we are, 8 months in, and I’m still posting once a week. Sure, the content may not be all that exciting, veering wildly from self analysis to rage and anger to mildly introspective and all the areas in between, but that’s not important.
What is important is the practice. I am writing every week. Every weekday on LinkedIn. My content output is dramatically higher than it was even a few months ago, and while I suffer through the early doldrums of poor quality writing, I know these are the hard miles I have to travel to come up with something that reflects me more and gradually becomes writing I’m proud to stand behind.
In a shorter term, these are my notes. They are scrappy and not really meant for publication, but I’m publishing them anyway as an exercise in more open expression.
See you next week. On time, this time.
