This is my journal on the internet.

I started writing blogs decades ago, but they haven’t survived the passage of time, mainly because I didn’t keep them up for very long.

This one is different because it’s an exercise in practice, but live on the internet. When I started this blog, I wanted it to be a public journal of coping with ADHD traits and gradually moving to a more independent career; in practice it’s a ragtag bag of rants, introspection, and swearing.

Funnily enough, I quickly dropped the old school Livejournal style “here’s the story of my life” stuff, because that doesn’t make sense in a weekly context, there’s a lot to be said for some semblance of privacy, and frankly my life isn’t that interesting anymore. Instead I practice. I write whatever is on my mind, rarely edit, hit publish, and move on. The publishing is more important than the quality of the content right now.

Spelling errors, grammatical errors, and anything else you find that is wrong is all me. No LLMs were involved in the production of content (though I did use the excellent t3.chat to help me tweak the theme a little to my liking).

Fair warning - I swear infrequently in these posts. Sometimes more often. I’m all about being authentic, after all.

It should go without saying that these highly charged, frequently emotional, sometimes incoherent rants are spewed wholesale from the deepest recesses of my brain and don’t represent the opinion of anybody other than me. I just take it on myself to write about something - if it pisses me off or if I think it’s worth writing about - and then move on with my life.

I stay away from most social media, so there is not really a way to contact me. If I change my mind, I’ll add something here. For the moment, just read!

The ‘how I made this blog’ bit for anybody who’s interested

I frequently experiment with different hosting for this thing - this is the second iteration in the first month of its’ life. Originally, I went with Ghost - which is a great platform - but for the low effort, low volume, simplest blog, it’s still overkill.

Now this is all static, generated by Hugo, and hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Simple, fast, and just markdown content - which I write in all the time anyway.

Jan Raasch is responsible for this wonderfully simple Bear Blog on Hugo theme, and I have recently taken inspiration from No One’s Happy for font and colour choices. Thanks to both of you for being better at layout and design than I could ever be.
