Books

I buy a lot of books. Don’t necessarily read them, though.

In the last two weeks I’ve bought three books.

All three are self help books, to a degree.

Bad Services is about fixing bad business services of all sorts, and follows on from their previous book, Good Services.

Protocols is a collection of solid, science backed Protocols by Huberman, who’s famous for the need to go out and get sun in your eyes within 30 minutes of waking. (amongst many, many others)

Now It All Makes Sense is the story of how the creator of LadBible found out at a relatively late age that he had ADHD.

I haven’t read them yet.

I’ve started all of them.

But as fast as I started one, I bought another, and started that one.

Some for good reason - Protocols is an incredibly dense book with a lot of scientific proof, and while that fairly lends credibility to the Author’s base of knowledge in this sector, it also makes it really hard to read. I struggled through 20-30 pages, then put it down. I suspect I won’t pick it up again.

Bad Services is great! But i need to be in a business mood and yes - that’s a fickle excuse - but it’s a mindset thing. bear with me on this.

I’m currently reading the last one, but I have ADHD too - so I forget or get distracted.

A side point here if you’ll bear with me; the recent ‘diagnosis’ of ADHD (in the last year, strongly suggested by my therapist, not formally tested) has done the thing I promised myself I wouldn’t do - every time I slip or exhibit a trait, I understand it, let it sit, and not punish myself for it.

That’s entirely grown up way of dealing with it - except I’m not quite dealing with it, am I?

The issue that the trait causes isn’t addressed. And because I have ADHD, I will pile up half done tasks around me until the pressure to either do them or get rid of them entirely is too strong to ignore.

Sure, I’ve taken a step forward in that I’m not mentally punishing myself for being lazy or procrastinating, but i’ve found a solid reason that has got me no closer to a solution.

And there’s another part of me that really wants to get a solution, so stays frustrated while I work through it.

Anyway, all to say that it’s been manifesting itself in buying books at the moment.

No doubt something else will come along and add to the pile of half finished things.

But I absolutely will finish the book on ADHD. I can relate to it, you see.

Back next week.

p.s. I actually wrote this post on time. Next step is to plan, draft, and edit then… sometime.
