2025
I’m taking a different approach to 2025 than I took in previous years.
My previous years were defined by big goals - yearly targets - that I quickly realised just didn’t match my energy or ability to sustain effort. They were also defined on what I felt like I should be doing, rather than what I wanted to do.
I had some success, but it was scattershot and ad-hoc. Not planned, and not what I wanted to achieve, because it wasn't achieved in context. I just got some extra side business, but not from a sustainable or repeatable method.
I also suffered with too much introspection, which is neatly summarised by this tweet by dax:
So to avoid all that in 2025, I’m doing six week sprints.
- I define a goal for myself
- I set a six week timeline (first one starts today!)
- I work over that six weeks to get the goal done.
No distractions, no diving off into rabbit holes, no planning or messing about - just go and do the thing.
And also one final thing: I don’t announce what I’m going to do, instead only what I’ve done. This stops the dopamine boost I get by announcing I’m going to do something, thus treating the thing as already done, and then not doing it.
I’m not holding myself accountable to anybody at the moment except myself.
I will be adding a summary post once a week here to show progress, but apart from that - if you’ll excuse me - I’m off to Go Do The Thing.
See you in a week.
